Herpes

Herpes is a viral infection that causes small painful blisters and inflammation, most commonly at the junction of skin and mucous membrane in the mouth or nose or in the genitals is that is commeonly called called herpes. It is a contagious viral infection acquired from skin-to-skin contact with people infected with the herpes virus. The word herpes embraces primarily two separate disorders, herpes simplex and herpes zoster, both caused by types of herpesviruses.

There are two types of herpes simplex that are well-known.

Cold sores or fever blisters - eruption of blisters that often take place at some point in the course or subsequently to one of a variety of diseases related with fever (most commonly colds, influenza, and pneumonia). The blisters usually become visible around the mouth and on the lips (herpes labialis); about the nose, face, and ears; and in the mouth and pharynx.

Genital herpes is a sexually transmitted infection of the genital, sometimes accompanied by headache and fever. The condition usually starts with a mild itching, followed by the development of multiple blisters that break and crust to form scabs that eventually dry up.

Herpes Zoster also known as shingles is caused by the chicken pox virus attacking a sensory nerve. The skin over the nerve generally breaks out in blisters a few days after the onset of the disorder. This type of herpes is accompanied by pain and repeated lack of sensation or hypersensitivity along the course of the nerve. The symptoms of herpes zoster are not sober, but the pain caused by inflammation can be enduring that usually last for weeks. Some drug medications such as steroids or cortisone can greatly reduce the symptoms of herpes zoster.

There is still no cure for herpes but there are several drugs that have been effective in reducing the itchiness and other symptoms presented by the disease. Do not attempt to peel off the crust instead let if fall off by itself.

It is also imperative to consult your doctor and discuss the possible options on how to shorten the healing period. You should keep yourself clean all the time and not only during the onset of herpesvirus, since hygiene and sanitation greatly help in control of the outbreak.
